TOWARDS ZERO is a youth-led organisation to fight climate change. We are looking for solutions through which the younger generation can start living a sustainable lifestyle. The concept is to move TOWARDS ZERO. This involves moving towards zero carbon emissions, towards zero carbon footprint and towards zero global warming.

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”

Every year, an astounding one-third of all the food produced globally goes to waste. This equates to around 1.3 billion tons of food, an unfathomable amount that could have greatly helped to nourish the world's hungry population. This wastage has dire consequences for the environment, economy, and food security. On the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, observed on September 29th, we shed light on this pressing issue and call for action to tackle this global challenge.
The main aim of the day is to raise awareness to the importance of food loss and waste related problems and their possible solutions at all levels, and also to promote global efforts and collective action towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goal Target 12.3, which targets to halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030, and reduce food losses along the food production and supply chains.Food loss and waste related problems contribute to the emission of greenhouse gases leading environmental detriment as well. The environmental cost of food loss and waste is staggering. Producing food that ultimately goes uneaten has a significant carbon footprint, contributing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of a major economy. Moreover, wasted food contributes to deforestation, habitat destruction, and water pollution caused by excessive fertilisers. Addressing this issue is crucial for mitigating climate change and preserving the planet's natural resources. The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste serves as a catalyst for change and a call to action. Governments, businesses, NGOs, and consumers must work collectively to implement sustainable practices throughout the food supply chain. This includes improved storage, transportation, and distribution methods, standardised date labelling, better food management in households, and fostering a culture of sustainability and mindful consumption. The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste serves as a catalyst for change and a call to action.
